I’ve been contemplating a question over the past month and even did a recent podcast on it…. “Why do we feel unqualified to do the things that tug at our heart?” This question has led me to a truth from God that I want to share with you today. And it’s the foundational mindset for weight loss, in my opinion. 

The Foundational Mindset for Weight Loss 

In order to lose weight, get healthy, eat better, move your body on the daily you have to make sure you have a solid foundation for your mindset. And when I say mindset, I mean your beliefs. If you are feeling the tug on your heart to get healthy, there is a reason for it. God would not plant those feelings in your heart if he were not able to support you through them. 

So often we feel these tugs in our heart to step outside of our current comfort zone, but instead of taking action on the tugs we doubt our own abilities. And in doubting our ability, we doubt God’s ability to support us through the journey. The desires on your heart are there for a reason. We feel that we cannot follow that tug or desire because we are not yet qualified. We wait and we take no action because we feel less than. But the truth is…. 

“God doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called.” ~unknown 

If you are feeling the tug to be healthy, TRUST that it means you are already qualified to do so! 

Our Experience Continues to Qualify Us

I talked about this in much more detail on a recent podcast I published, but it was more about business and leadership. This blog is about understanding that this truth, belief or mindset is foundational for weight loss as well. So if you are feeling called to make healthier choices, that feeling is your sign to take a step forward in that direction. Hire a coach, commit to a workout plan, find a meal plan or meal prep guide, connect with healthy minded people. One step is all you need to continue to qualify yourself. 

As you take one step at a time, you will be led down a path that continues to qualify you and prepare you for the next step. You do not have to know all the answers or see the entire path when you first start. It really is just about taking one step at a time. And isn’t that a relief?!? That we don’t have to have all the answers when we start?? That we can allow the answers to come to us with each step. 

Let Go of the Past

I know that it’s easy to feel unqualified because of what has happened in the past. You’ve attempted something and it didn’t work, so you decided in that moment you would never be so stupid to try it again. Or you went for something and got hurt in the process, again deciding you didn’t want to give it another shot. Whether you decided not to try again consciously or subconsciously, those past experiences have shaped how you show up today when that same desire pulls on your heart. 

It’s time to let go of the past. If we continue to let our past dictate what we do in the present, we will never evolve and grow into who we are made to become. 

Lose Weight by Shifting Your Mindset 

If there is a tug on your heart to lose weight, get healthy, make better choices it’s time to shift your mindset into one of TRUST and FAITH. God put that tug on your heart for a reason and I promise there is MORE to losing weight/getting healthy than you can even see right now… there always is a greater purpose in His work.
