Can you believe it?!?!? The Summer Season is here, FINALLY!!! I am so excited for boat days on the lake, cookouts and so much needed fun in the sun! BUUUT, I’m also very mindful about setting intentions to stay in shape and on track with my goals – both physically and mentally.
It’s just really easy to slip during this time and I’m always a fan of being proactive vs. reactive!! So, here’s a few of my personal guidelines I follow daily, no matter what!
Move daily.
I know I say this a lot, but moving your body everyday is so good! Not only does it help move toxins out of your body, but it is a HUGE de-stressor too!
Be mindful of your portions.
Ok, so I know it’s hard to be perfect with your nutrition, but it’s not hard to be mindful. Being mindful just means you are aware of what you are eating. And if you decide to eat the entire donut (or three) acknowledge it, fully enjoy it and don’t beat yourself up over it.
I think eating becomes emotional or acts as our drug of choice, when we hide what we are eating. And not just hiding from others, but hiding from ourselves. So be mindful and own it! When you face the reality of what you put in your mouth and into your body, you are much more likely to eat healthier portion sizes!
Enjoy your food.
Yes, there will be lots of treats coming up in the next couple months. Overindulging in them can come from lack of enjoyment while eating the first one. So as you indulge in a treat, FULLY INDULGE!! Love it and enjoy it. When you are present with the food you eat, you start to notice you only really need one!
Get rest.
There is a lot going on during the summer (maybe not as much this year tho ?), so it’s really important for you to make sleep and resting a priority. Lights out at a certain time so you can relax! And when lights are out, make it a rule that no more house work is done. You will wake up feeling refreshed, re-energized and ready to make up for what you put off the night before in order to rest. Try it, I promise it works!
Oh and one other thing about rest and sleep… when you are tired and delirious, you are much more likely to eat junk food. Sleep and rest gives you a clear mind to make more mindful choices about the food you eat!
Keep learning & growing.
One thing I am always doing is learning and growing. Currently I am reading a book called Tiny Habits. Again! Cause I love it so much. Most of my personal growth comes from reading books or listening to them on audio. I do it because it always makes me feel so inspired to be a better mom, wife, friend and coach! Nothing feels better than filling your own cup! Have you listened to my podcast yet???
Practice gratitude.
This is everything for me. The more I stop and just sit in the gratitude I have for my life, the happier I am. We all have so much to be thankful for, so take some time to really feel into it. It makes all the difference!
You can have fun AND be healthy – promise!
Let’s enjoy summer, but stay mindful about our goals and vision for a healthy lifestyle! These are the simple guidelines I have used over and over. They keep me in flow, keep me grounded and certainly keep me on track with my goals! Keeping it simple works!
